4th year Junior Board Officer Emma Newberry
Emma Newberry, 17 years old and from Watkinsville, Georgia, will be serving on the Georgia Dairy Youth Foundation Junior Board for her fourth year. Emma will be a senior at Oconee County High School this upcoming year. At school, she is an active member in the Oconee County FFA Chapter and will be serving as the Student Advisor this school year.
For the last eight years, Emma has exhibited Commercial Dairy Heifers with the Williams family and registered Brown Swiss cows and heifers with the Franks Family through FFA and 4-H. Not only is she heavily involved in FFA and GDYF, she is also a member of her school’s National Honors Society, Beta Club, TSA Club, Robotics Club and the OCHS Humane Society. This year, Emma will also serve as the Chairman for the Georgia National Fairgrounds Livestock Ambassador Program, to advocate for students exhibiting livestock in Georgia and as a Georgia FFA Area 2 officer.
Being a part of the Georgia Dairy Youth Foundation Junior Board for the past four years has really opened Emma’s eyes to the dairy industry. She has been able to meet many industry leaders, have a hands-on experience with dairy heifers, and see the impact the dairy industry has on Georgia’s economy. If asked what Emma’s favorite part of the commercial dairy heifer program, Emma will quickly tell you “being able to share my skills and knowledge to other showman, people unfamiliar with the dairy industry, and my peers.” Emma also adds that she is always willing to learn and try new things to better her show experience.
Emma is more than excited to serve on the GDYF Jr. Board this year to meet new people, advocate the dairy industry, and help raise money for FFA and 4-H students involved in dairy activities. With her passion to always share her story and love for all things ag-related and FFA, Emma strives to be a future Agriculture Education Teacher to hopefully spark an interest in someone else’s life on agriculture. Emma is the daughter of Jason and Farrah Newberry.
