Calling for Jr. Board Members!

The Georgia Dairy Youth Foundation has openings for its Junior Board for freshman through eleventh grade 4-H and FFA students with an interest in dairy. The Junior Board helps support GDYF’s mission of providing broad-based financial support for Georgia dairy youth. Jr. Board members participate in fundraisers, connect youth to a variety of dairy activities, build connections throughout the industry and with other youth, gain professional development and leadership training, and participate in team-building exercises.

Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in dairy. Experience in activities includes the Georgia Commercial Dairy Heifer program, quiz bowl, dairy judging, dairy SAE’s and project achievement, the Southeast Dairy Youth Retreat, and any other dairy youth activities offered in Georgia. Showing is not a prerequisite to being on the board. Applications are due February 4th, 2023.

After selection for the board, the member must write a short bio to share on social media, attend the GDYF training day, and attend at least two additional GDYF events. These events include:

· GA National Fair GDYF info booth, October, Perry, GA

· State Commercial Dairy Heifer Show GDYF info booth, February, Perry, GA

· GDYF Golf Tournament, March, Bishop, GA

· GDYF showmanship workshops for students and teachers

· GDYF annual board meeting and auction fundraiser, January, Savannah, GA

Jr. Board members connect other dairy youth with new dairy activities, educate them more about the dairy industry, and make new friends along the way. Students brainstorm ideas for and host Dairy Week in August for other dairy youth and hold a photo contest for a GDYF calendar in October/November. Throughout the year, they also have opportunities to connect and network with dairy industry leaders on the GDYF senior board including 4-H/FFA representatives, UGA professors, dairy producers, dairy processors, and other dairy industry businessmen and women.

Applications are now open to be on the Georgia Dairy Youth Foundation Junior Board of Directors. The application form and a brief two-minute video describing yourself and desire to be on the board, are due February 4th, 2023. The form is available in Dropbox.
